Before You Start

If you have three days in Munich, you can see a lot without turning your trip into a sprint. My biggest advice is to group sights by area and leave some unscheduled time for wandering.

This itinerary focuses on the places I visited and would prioritize for a first trip. If you want to add a full-day excursion such as Neuschwanstein or Linderhof, I would either extend the trip or replace one of the city days rather than trying to squeeze everything in.

Day 1: Old Town, Marienplatz, and Viktualienmarkt

Start in Marienplatz. It is the easiest place to get oriented and immediately gives you the classic Munich experience: the Neues Rathaus, the Glockenspiel, busy pedestrian streets, cafés, and historic architecture.

Spend time walking around the square instead of treating it as a photo stop. From there, visit the Frauenkirche and wander through the surrounding Old Town streets.

Head to Viktualienmarkt around lunch. It is convenient, lively, and a great place to slow down after a morning of sightseeing.

Use the afternoon for more Old Town wandering, shopping, or a museum depending on your interests. I would keep the evening flexible for dinner and a walk through the center after the daytime crowds begin to thin.

Day 2: Nymphenburg Palace and the English Garden

Make Nymphenburg Palace your main morning activity. Give yourself enough time for both the interiors and the grounds. The palace is beautiful, but rushing through it would miss a lot of the experience.

Afterward, return toward central Munich and spend the later afternoon in the English Garden. Walk, relax, and make your way toward the Eisbach wave to watch the surfers.

This is a good day to avoid overplanning dinner. By this point you will probably have noticed restaurants or neighborhoods you want to return to.

Day 3: History, Culture, or a Day Trip

Your third day depends on what you care about most. If historical education is a priority, consider visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site and give it the time and seriousness it deserves.

If you would rather stay in Munich, use the day for museums, neighborhoods you missed, another palace or church, and more relaxed exploration.

If castles and alpine scenery are the reason you came to Bavaria, this is also the day I would dedicate to a full day trip. Neuschwanstein and the surrounding Füssen area or Linderhof Palace are both memorable options.

A Few Things I Would Do Differently

I would not try to see Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Dachau, Nymphenburg, and every major Munich attraction in the same three days. Bavaria rewards slowing down.

I would also deliberately schedule at least one block of time with no destination. Munich is a city where wandering is part of the experience.

Finally, wear comfortable shoes. Even with excellent public transportation, you will probably walk far more than you expect.

Three-Day Snapshot

Day 1: Marienplatz, Neues Rathaus, Frauenkirche, Viktualienmarkt, Old Town.

Day 2: Nymphenburg Palace, English Garden, Eisbach wave.

Day 3: Choose Dachau, a deeper Munich culture day, or a full-day Bavaria excursion.

This gives you a strong introduction without making every hour feel scheduled.
